INFLUENCE OF SOCIAL AND DEMOGRAPHIC AND INTER SCHOOL ENVIRONMENT ON THE FUNCTIONAL LITERACY AND VALUE ORIENTATION OF SCHOOL GRADUATES
|
Matyushkina Marina D., Belousov Konstantin Y.
|
Abstract.
The role of social and demographic context, family capital and school in achieving various education results is topical and debatable today. At the same time, special importance amid the introduction of new federal state education standards goes to the issues related to meta-object competences and functional literacy as well as value orientations characterizing personal results of education. The article provides the integrative correlational research of these important results and conditions conducted on the uniform bulk of data and having allowed to draw generalized conclusions. Three generalized factors have been singled out and described: “easy success”, “professionalism” and “self-fulfillment in a family” characterizing the structure of values and goals of today’s graduates, as well as two factors characterizing their tolerance and patriotism. Seven groups of indices potentially connected to the revealed factors, including social and demographic ones, characteristics of schools and teachers, and “mixed” groups (health, leisure and others), have been defined. Reliable correlations between all the considered variables have been singled out, their rank correlation and possible explanation of the obtained values of correlation relationships has been adduced. The both value orientations and functional literacy of school students are considerably affected by the “inter school environment”, namely characteristics of interactions between teachers and students. Abilities of teachers to engage students into their classes, to teach how to apply knowledge in practice, and general atmosphere at school stimulating self-education and communication between students, supporting their psychological health, are the most important factors. The indices under research are connected to the social-demographic status of students’ families to a lesser degree. The role of the family factors is more significant when forming the value orientations, than the functional literacy of school students.

Abstract.
Urgency of the subject of this article is conditioned by the Education Reform in England. Until recently, the Science has had the goal of creating fundamental scientific knowledge in students in individual subjects (in biology, chemistry, and physics). The changes that have taken place for the purposes of natural science education have led to changes in the content of the Science textbooks on Biology, Chemistry and Physics. If earlier the study of the science content had the subject differentiation, then today an attempt is made to integrate these disciplines in the content of textbooks. The purpose of this topic is to consider new directions in the study of Science, its content, criteria and methods, by means of the example of the “Combined Science: Synergy” textbook, which was included in the school curriculum in England in September 2016.

One can find here the information about the hypothesis of the possible implementation of the second foreign language as a special educational environment which is appropriate for a full development of a student’s personality, the development of the operational mindset, in particular. On the current level of the Chinese language development as a school subject such fundamental concepts as “sign”, “model”, “algorithm”, and “system” might be its subject areas to look at explicitly. According to the offered model of studying, each of the mentioned general scientific notions are used as basic to understand and train the learning material on the certain level of studying Chinese. It helps to shape not only understanding of the subject being, learnt as a special system, but also active including of the scientific language, wildly used in other school subjects, into the learning process. In its turn, the operational mindset, rising in the process of studying a certain subject, does not exist only in this very process; soon it covers all the activities of a student. It can be noticed in his personal and meta-subject skills. Thereby students get a skill to observe all subjects and phenomena of the environment as a system in their development and relationship.
