The article describes the main types of 16th century Polish primer models: the first one was only intended to teach children to recognize the letters of the alphabet, the second one – to teach them readings skills. Primers were published both as separate brochures and as part of catechisms, prayer books or Bible text editions. A characteristic feature of the early modern primers of in confessions was a combination of grammatical material with a large selection of religious texts.A comparison of those selections allows one to specify four models, which dominatedin 16th century Poland.The earliest one is the so-called liturgical model and the model of the medieval parish catechetical instruction.The Reformation led to the creation of two more models: primers, which followed the Small Catechism of Martin Luther and primers arranged in the genre of „Spruchbücher“. In the 17th and 18th centuries, textbooks, which imitated the model of the medieval parish catechetical instruction, prevailed.

The article analyses Martin Luther’s Small Catechism, written for the purpose of teaching the basics of the Christian faith to children and servants. The author discusses the history of the catechism, its early versions and names. Since its appearance in Germany the Small Catechism was also used as a school textbook due   to its accessible and convenient form and the use of visual material. In addition, Luther’s Small Catechism was included in the list of required textbooks in many German schools.

The Dialogues, written by Juan Luis Vives in 1539, were widely popular and have run through nearly 50 editions in half a century. The work can, in a way, be viewed as a textbook, which the students used to master the Latin language. In contrast with the “Colloquies” of Erasmus of Rotterdam, which constitute lengthy narratives touching on various everyday-life topics, Vives’ concise dialogues concentrate on situations that mainly concern school life. The author presents her own translation of “The Dialogues”.

Using several examples this article examines how teaching literacy and reading has changed over the course of US history: from early primers to the system of textbooks, special reading-level books and a large body of children’s literature. Whereas in the past, teaching materials were predominantly of religious and moralistic nature, the main principle for non-religious editions today is celebrating diversity, gender and racial equality and affirming ideas such as “I Can Read and I Enjoy Reading».

These textbooks differ by their destination, instructional content, possible Russian language teaching techniques, addressee and their underlying linguo methodologic bases.

Currently a cognitive style that focuses on a visual information processing strategy is actively being formed among the youth. This process requires a modernization of the methods and mechanisms of knowledge translation. In a modern textbook, the relationshipof text and visual components should be different. A significant array of textbooks of the late 19th and early 20th centuries is analyzed by the author. It was a period of humanity's transitionfrom the book culture to the visualone. Various systems of interrelation between visuals and text are explored through the example of primary school textbooks. The factors affecting the formation of such systems are identified.

This article explores the ways the “Other” (in this case, a foreigner) was represented in the Soviet foreign language textbooks of the late Stalinist period (1945-56). The author analyses three “lines” of textbooks: the first one being designed for seven-year schools and high schools, the second – for specialized language schools and the third one – for urban schools where the study of foreign languages started in the 3rd grade, two years earlier than in common schools.

The author presents a review of the book written by James Mukle – a British professor and a teacher of Russian. The book under the name «James Arthur Heard and the education of the poor in Russia» is devoted to the description of the life of James Arthur Heard (1798 - 1875), who came to Russia from England, was given a Russian name Yakov Ivanovich Gerd and became one of the most prominent teachers of the Russian language. The book was published in Great Britain in 2013 at the Bramcote Press publishing house.

открыть Польские буквари XVI века: молитвенник, катехизис, сборник сентенций

В статье описываются основные модели польских букварей XVI в. По критерию содержания грамматического материалы выделяются два типа элементарных учебников: первый предназначался для того, чтобы научить распознавать буквы алфавита, с помощью другого осваивались навыки чтения. Букварные пособия выходили как отдельными брошюрами, так и в составе катехизисов, изданий библейских текстов и молитвенников. В XVI в. важной частью элементарных учебников были подборки текстов религиозного содержания. В статье выделяются четыре доминировавшие в ту эпоху разновидности данных текстов. К эпохе Средневековья восходили так называемая литургическая модель и модель устной средневековой приходской катехезы. Реформация способствовала возникновению еще двух моделей: учебников, которые подражали Малому катехизису М. Лютера,и букварей, которые можно отнести к жанру популярных в Европе «Spruchbücher». В последующие два столетия численно преобладали учебники, которые восходили к средневековой модели устной приходской катехезы.

В статье анализируется Краткий катехизис Мартина Лютера, написанный им для обучения основам христианской веры детей и слуг. Рассматривается история создания катехизиса, его ранние варианты и названия. С момента своего появления в Германии Краткий катехизис использовался также в качестве школьного учебника, чему способствовала его доступная и удобная для обучения форма, использование наглядного материала. Более того, Краткий катехизис Лютера входил в перечень необходимых учебных пособий многих немецких школ.

В настоящей статье речь идет о диалогах Хуана Луиса Вивеса. Диалоги, написанные в 1539 г., пользовались огромной популярностью и выдержали за полстолетия около 50 изданий. Это своеобразный учебник, с помощью которого учащиеся глубже осваивали латинский язык. В отличие от «Разговоров запросто» Эразма Роттердамского, где представлены подчас пространные рассказы на самые разные жизненные темы, у Вивеса в кратких диалогах обсуждаются ситуации главным образом из школьной жизни. Вниманию читателей представлены переводы диалогов, выполненные автором статьи.

открыть Некоторые аспекты начального обучения чтению в США: книги и учебники

В статье на нескольких примерах рассматривается то, как менялось обучение чтению на протяжении истории США: от использования букварей – до целой системы учебников, специально ранжированных по сложности книг для самостоятельного прочтения и большого корпуса детской литературы. Если ранние учебные материалы носили, преимущественно, религиозный и назидательный характер, то в настоящее время главным принципом (в изданиях, которые используют светские учебные заведения и нерелигиозные родители) стала идея разнообразия, политкорректности  и утверждения «Я могу читать и  люблю читать».

открыть Взаимосвязи текста и визуального ряда в российских школьных учебниках рубежа XIX и XX веков

В настоящее время в среде молодежи и подростков активно формируется когнитивный стиль, ориентированный на визуальные стратегии переработки информации. Это требует обновления способов и механизмов трансляции знания в рамках образовательного процесса. Соотношение текстовых и визуальных компонентов в современном учебнике должно быть иным. В статье проанализирован значительный массив учебных пособий рубежа XIXXX вв. – периода, когда начался переход человечества от книжной культуры к визуальной. На примере учебников для начальной школы рассмотрены различные системы взаимосвязей между визуальным рядом и текстом. Выявлены факторы, влияющие на выстраивание подобных систем.

Статья посвящена особенностям представления Другого (иностранца) в советских учебниках английского языка периода позднего сталинизма (1945–1956 гг.). Рассматриваются три линейки учебников: для семилетних и полных средних школ, для школ с углубленным преподаванием иностранного языка и для городских школ, где изучение иностранного языка начиналось с 3 класса.

Ментальные противоречия модернизации отечественного образования

В статье рассматриваются наиболее глубокие (ментальные) противоречия российской модернизации образования. Данные противоречия представлены на уровне национального менталитета, ментальных особенностей российского образования и ментальности педагогов. Одним из факторов, определяющих специфику российских модернизаций, является их дуальность. В статье модернизации образования рассматриваются как парные: догоняющие и защитные (возвратные). Это относится и к модернизации образования 1980–1990-х гг., и к модернизационным процессам, начавшимся в 2012 г.

В статье на примере американской программы национальной оценки прогресса в образовании NAEP рассматриваются цели национального мониторинга, группы пользователей результатов мониторинга, стратегия распространения информации, формы информирования, информационные продукты и их характеристики.

The article examines the most profound (mental) contradictions of the Russian education modernization process. These contradictions are presented at the level of national mentality and peculiarities of Russian educational and teacher mentality. One of the factors determining the specificity of Russian education modernization is its duality. The author views Russian modernization of education as having two components: a “catching up” and a  “protective” (recurrent) one. This also applies to modernization of education throughout the 1980s and 1990s, as well as the modernization process, which began in 2012.

The author analyses the contents of school education from the point of view of motivation for military duty.

открыть On Bibliometric Indicators Used in Evaluating Scientific Pedagogical and Psychological Journals

This article proposes a revision of the list of reviewed pedagogical and psychological journals which can publish the results of dissertation research (VAK). For this purpose the use of bibliometric an expert methods is essential. The authors propose a set of bibliometric indicators based on the Russian Science Citation Index (RSCI) and webometric indicators based on Google Academy and the Yandex thematic citation index. Using these indicators, a rating of Russian pedagogical and psychological journals presented in the RSCI is formed. The rating process is accomplished through ranking the journals by each indicator. The final rating is planned to be used as a basis for expert journal evaluation.

Tourist and local-history-oriented media education is beneficial to the process of socialization of orphaned children in a boarding school. The effectiveness of this type of activity combined with speech therapy support for the formation of correct speech patterns in a young tour guide, journalist, or museum manager is unquestionable. The article describes the types, methods and directions of work of speech therapists for successful socialization of orphans being cared for in institutions. Moreover, the authors provide a description of the work being done in this area at Boarding School № 1 in Voronezh.

This article characterizes the history of the Chuvash language textbook, which takes its origin in the latter part of the 18th century. I.Y. Yakovlev, a pedagogue and creator of modern Chuvash alphabet, played a foremost role in creating the study literature of the late 19th century.  20th century brought about a plethora of Chuvash language and literature textbooks and study guides, which aided further development of the language. The appendix to the article contains a bibliographical index of Chuvash primers, which makes it easy to analyze primer publishing during a certain period, find the names of scientists which took part in their preparation, track the content evolution of educational literature and the changes in educational programs.

This article is the last in a series of articles on historical and pedagogical materials characterizing the development of the educational system and the system of teacher training in Russia in the second half of the 19th century – beginning of the 20th century, which are kept at the Ushinsky Scientific Pedagogical Library. [14] The article analyzes foreign study books, which are part of the Ushinsky Library funds. The most frequently used works in teacher training and self-training were picked for analysis. The results of this research allow to conclude that the works of A. Bain, O. Willman, F. Dittes, W. A. Lay, E. Meumann, F. Paulsen, G. Richard etc. were widely known and used in the Russian pedagogical education system. The studied publications are listed in the bibliography, and, for the readers’ convenience, given codes from the Ushinsky Library catalogue.

The article explores the history of organization of the Russian scientific archive of education as part of the Russian Academy of Education. The author presents a full list of archive funds of the NARCOMPROS RSFSR educational institutions of the RSFSR (USSR) Academy of Education. The author also characterizes some of the unique archive documents of the first scientific-research institutes of Soviet Russia in the early 20th century, as well as personal archive funds of teachers, psychologists and public figures of national education in Russia from the middle of the 19th century to the end of the 20th century.

The goal of this article is to define a methodological outline of experimental didactics, determine its philosophical basis in light of the modern scientific outlook. открыть John Dewey’s Unrealized Dream

The paper is devoted to the outstanding thinker of the 20th Century – John Dewey (1859–1952). An author of about 1000 works in different fields of science, “the teacher of teachers” John Dewey was devoted to the ideals of democratic education throughout his whole life. The content of the paper is based on the archives of Chicago University (examined during Carnegie Corporation Grant) and gives a chance to appreciate Dewey’s civic mission and contribution to world science. Dewey’s educational projects are analyzed and special attention is paid to his unrealized dream – a book he wasn’t able to finish.

Main Directions of Continuity in Continuous Teaching of Russian Orthography

The article examines the role of morphological abnormalities in creating the linguistic picture of  the Russian fantasy world. Morphological abnormalities are presented in the article as a type of linguistic play, different types of which perform composite, ideological, aesthetic and other functions. The study identifies such linguistic tools for creating morphological abnormalities, as changing the grammatical number and gender of nouns, transposition of adverbs, infringement of communication standards.The observations presented in this paper allow the author to draw conclusions about the features of language and the style of Russian and Russian-language fantasy.

открыть Significance of Integrated Classes, Based on Literary, Artistic and Musical Works, for Student Speech Development

The article provides a theoretical substantiation of the significance of Russian Language classes based on cultural studies for the development of the students’ speech skills. An emphasis is made on the metadisciplinary function of the Russian language as a “means of communion with the spiritual richness of Russian culture and with the cultural and historical experience of mankind”. A number of classes that teach writing essays on same-topic literary, artistic and musical works is presented. (For example, an essay on the painting “The Swan Princess” by M. A. Vrubel and C. Saint-Saens play “The Swan” with an excerpt from A. S. Pushkin’s “The Tale of Tsar Saltan”.) The author also proposes a system of age-specific selection of same-topic works for students of the 5th, 6th and 7th grades.

The article examines the problems of educational integration through the evolution of the notion of “literacy” and the associated changes in the structure of education. The educational structural changes are accompanied by changes of the national educational standards, as well as new requirements in teaching quality. Meta-subject competence, particularly in “conscions reading”, is becoming one of the foremost requirements. Its formation takes place during the entire school education process, but can become most effective through the implementation of long-forgotten traditions of the national language alphabet teaching with all its art-pedagogical and art-therapeutical factors.
